Social and Economic Situation in Krasnodar City
The Municipal Formation Krasnodar City is an administrative, industrial, business and cultural center of the Krasnodar Region.
The area city is 840 square kilometers. It has an advantageous economic and geographical position. It is located on the Kuban-Priazovskaya Lowland, on the right bank of the Kuban River, in 120-150 km from two seas: the Black and Azov Seas. It is divided into four districts — Western, Karasunskyi, Prikubanskyi and Central – with 2 urban settlements, 5 rural districts and 29 rural settlements within their boundaries.
The population of the city according to official figures is more than 980 thousand citizens, but in fact, it exceeds 1.3 million people.
Krasnodar has leading positions in the Russian Federation in terms of infrastructure construction, and is also rightfully considered to be one of the leaders among the cities of the South of Russia based on the results of the social and economic development. The capital of the Kuban won the main all-Russian award "Russian National Olympus" in the nomination of "The Best City of Russia" and the Order "For Honor and Valor".
In 2016, Krasnodar entered the top five in the ranking of the quality of life of Russian cities provided by the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, and in 2017, the city was awarded the 2nd place in the ranking of promising Russian megacities, according to the Expert Business Magazine’s estimation.
Krasnodar is a major transport hub of the south of Russia. Its territory is crossed by four directions of railways and two highways of federal importance; there is a river cargo port and an airport here. All types of transport, such as air, railway, river, bus and city electric transport (tram and trolleybus) work in the city.
Among the cities of the Southern Federal District, Krasnodar is a leader in terms of shipped goods of its own production, retail turnover, the average monthly salary per employee working at large and medium-sized enterprises, and the minimum unemployment rate (0.3%) is registered in the city.
As the Kuban capital, Krasnodar generates about 40% of the total retail turnover of the Krasnodar Region, 30% of the turnover of public catering and 44.7 percent of the scope of paid services.
Modern Krasnodar is the largest industrial center of the South of Russia. About 77.5 thousand people work at large and medium-sized industrial enterprises, or almost 14% of all the employed in the city’s economy.
The agricultural complex is represented by 20 large agricultural enterprises, more than 50 farms, and 15 thousand personal subsidiary plots. The area of agricultural land is about 49 thousand hectares. The range of agricultural science is represented by six research institutes, including Krasnodar Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture Named After P.P. Lukyanenko, All-Russian Research Institute of Biological Plant Protection, All-Russian Research Institute of Rice, North Caucasian Research Institute of Livestock, North Caucasian Research Institute of Horticulture and Viticulture.
Krasnodar is a large cultural center of Russia. The citizens and guests of the Kuban capital can visit the Krasnodar State Academic Drama Theater, the Krasnodar Regional Puppet Theater, the Krasnodar State Circus, the Krasnodar State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve Named After E.D. Felitsyn, the Krasnodar Regional Philharmonic Hall, numerous parks and squares, the Botanical Garden, and the water park.
There are about 170 kindergartens, more than 80 general schools, 29 state and non-state higher educational institutions in the territory of the city. The largest universities are Kuban State University, Kuban State Technological University, Kuban State Agrarian University, University of Culture and Arts, Kuban State Medical Academy.
The Krasnodar healthcare system has a leading position in Russia in a number of aspects. The capital of the region hosts the Center of Thoracic Surgery; a complex of centers for specialized outpatient treatment has been created established on the basis of the Krasnodar Municipal Medical and Diagnostic Association.
High economic potential and favorable investment climate attracts attention of representatives of domestic and foreign business. Effective business relations with enterprises of the USA, Turkey, Ukraine, Germany, Belarus, Greece, Italy, France, Israel, Austria, Cyprus are maintained. There are enterprises of such large companies as CLAAS, Philip Morris, Metro Cash and Carry, and many others in the territory of the city.
